Pamukkale is a natural site in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey. Pamukkale means Cotton Castle in Turkish, the name comes from its hot springs and travertines, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. Pamukkale is at Turkeys Inner Anatolia region, in the River Menderes valley, which has a calm climate for all the season. Hierapolis was built on top of the white castle. It is an ancient Greco Roman and Byzantine city. It can be seen from the hills on the opposite side of the valley in the town of Denizli.Tourism is a major industry in Pamukkale. Hot spring pools had been used for thousands of years and they are still in use of human. The area was declared a World Heritage Site, and it is under protection. Wearing shoes in the travertines and terraces is prohibited to protect the deposits.

The stunning white terraces of Pamukkale and the neighboring site of Hierapolis are situated inland, close to the town of Denizli. They can be reached from most of the coastal resorts on a one or two day trip but Kusadasi is the closest - approximately 4 hours drive away.
